In the 1960s 57 Wimpole street was the home of the middle class Asher family, father Richard, mother Margaret, son Peter and two daughters Jane and Clare.
Jane Asher was Paul's girlfriend and seven months after they had met he moved in with the Asher family, he stayed at their Wimpole street home from November 1963 to early 1966. His room was in the attic at the very top of the house, many of the early Beatles hits were concieved there, as well as in the music room. In October 1963, Paul McCartney and Jon Lennon wrote the hit "I Want To Hold Your Hand" on Richard Asher's piano in the music room.
Paul also became friends with Janes brother, Peter Asher, who was part of the pop duo Peter and Gordon. McCartney sometimes gave him unrecorded tracks for him to record and release. The most successful of these tracks were the 1964 track 'World Without Love'. After Peter's duo split up he was made Head of A&R (talant scouting) for Apple.
